Minister: Pastor Cletus Desmond (General Overseer), Texts: Psalm 121:1–2; 2 Kings 6:26–27
I. INTRODUCTION
Help means support, aid, or assistance.
Every human being under the sun needs help at some point in life.
Regardless of position, wealth, education, or influence, no one is self-sufficient only God is.
Life’s challenges remind us that help is essential, and only the help of God guarantees lasting success.
Psalm 121:1–2 – “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”
II. THE UNIVERSAL NEED FOR HELP
Everyone seeks help.
Mark 1:37 – “All men seek for Thee.”
Those who sought after Jesus did so because they needed help healing, deliverance, direction, or restoration.
Even the wealthy need help.
A rich man still visits the doctor for medical assistance.
No one is fully independent all creation depends on the Creator.
Only God is all-sufficient.
Psalm 127:1 – “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.”
III. WRONG PLACES OF SEEKING HELP
Seeking help from men
Jeremiah 17:5–6 – “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man…”
Human help is limited and can fail at any time.
Seeking help from mediums or diviners
Even unbelievers look for help through wrong means idols, charms, fortune-tellers.
Christians must never follow such examples.
Seeking help in self-reliance
When we depend solely on our intellect, resources, or connections, we subtly declare independence from God.
Isaiah 50:11 – “Behold, all ye that kindle a fire… ye shall lie down in sorrow.”
Depending on self or man brings disappointment.
Psalm 1:1 – “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly…”
God blesses those who avoid ungodly counsel and trust wholly in Him.
IV. THE RIGHT SOURCE OF HELP GOD ALONE
God is our true Helper.
Psalm 121:1–2 – “My help cometh from the Lord.”
He never sleeps nor slumbers; His help is timely and sure.
God determines promotion and lifting.
Psalm 75:6–7 – “For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge.”
Jesus is our unfailing focus.
Hebrews 12:1–2 – “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”
Every believer must fix their eyes on Jesus, not on the storm or situation.
V. BIBLICAL EXAMPLE PETER WALKING ON WATER
Peter’s miracle
When Peter obeyed Jesus’ command, “Come,” he walked on water a divine act of faith.
His success depended on his focus on Christ.
Peter’s mistake
When his attention shifted from Jesus to the storm, he began to sink.
This teaches us that losing focus on God brings failure and fear.
Lesson:
Keep your eyes on God no matter the situation.
Miracles may be delayed, but they are never denied.
Psalm 16:4 – “Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god.”
VI. THE ROOT AND THE TREE AN ANALOGY OF DEPENDENCE
The root system of a tree supports its stability and supplies nutrients.
Without the root, the tree dies.
God is the root of every believer’s life.
He is our source, strength, and sustenance.
Without Him, we can do nothing.
Spiritual lesson:
Just as no faithful husband or wife entertains a third party, God demands our exclusive devotion.
Idolatry trusting any other source grieves God.
Exodus 20:3–5 – “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
VII. DEDICATION AND DEPENDENCE
Definition of Dedication:
To set apart, hand over, or consecrate something for a sacred purpose.
In the context of today’s service:
This church is being dedicated to God acknowledging Him as our source of help, strength, and direction.
Our lives must reflect the same total dependence and devotion to God.
VIII. LESSON FROM NOAH’S ARK~ Genesis 6:15–16
God gave Noah specific instructions for building the ark.
The window was placed at the top symbolizing that our eyes must always look upward to heaven for help.
The door was by the side and was shut by God Himself meaning God alone is our protector and source of security.
By design, distractions were cut off from every side so that Noah could only look up to God.
When your “window” faces heaven, you will never lack divine help.
IX. EXAMPLES OF DEPENDENCE IN SCRIPTURE
Jeremiah 17:7 – “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.”
Trust brings blessing; doubt brings dryness.
2 Corinthians 8:1–5 – The Macedonian believers first gave themselves to the Lord before anything else.
True dedication begins with surrender.
X. CONCLUSION
Our help comes only from the Lord not from man, wealth, or position.
Those who depend on God never end in shame.
To live independent of God is to walk in danger.
To depend on Him is to live under grace, provision, and peace.
Psalm 46:1 – “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
FINAL EXHORTATION
When the window of your life is open only toward heaven,
you will never lack divine help.
Let this dedication remind that our hope, our strength, and our help come from the Lord the Maker of heaven and earth.
