First Thing First- A Call to Return, Rebuild, and Realign

Scriptures:Matthew 6:33; Exodus 19:10–11; Genesis 35:1–3

Every great move of God begins with divine order. Before God reveals His glory, He first demands preparation from His people. In Exodus 19, God told Moses to sanctify the people because He was about to meet with them. The same God who delivers is the God who demands holiness and order.

Many Christians desire breakthrough, promotion, and open doors, yet they neglect the principle of putting first things first. When we chase the blessing before the Blesser, we end up in frustration. But when we prioritize God, He arranges the rest of our lives in perfect alignment.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” ~ Matthew 6:33

Putting God first means allowing Him to set the pace, define our priorities, and lead our pursuits. It means choosing relationship over routine, worship before work, and obedience before ambition.

1. GOD REQUIRES PREPARATION BEFORE MANIFESTATION ~ (Exodus 19:10 –11)

“Sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes, and be ready against the third day…”

Before God shows Himself strong, He calls His people to get ready. Preparation is proof of expectation. No one meets with a king in a careless state  how much more the King of kings?

Holiness, purity, and obedience are not optional; they are prerequisites for divine manifestation. God will not pour new wine into old wineskins.

Example:
Before Pentecost, the disciples tarried in prayer in the upper room. Before Solomon built the temple, David made every necessary preparation. Every divine visitation is preceded by human preparation. If you want to see the glory of God in your ministry, marriage, or business, get your life and altar ready. God moves where there is order.

2. DON’T SEEK THE BLESSING ABOVE THE BLESSER ~ (Genesis 35:1–3)

“Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there; and make there an altar unto God…”

Jacob had been blessed, but God called him back to Bethel  the place where he first encountered His presence. Prosperity had made him comfortable, but God wanted to remind him of his source.

So many believers remember God only when they are in need, but forget Him when abundance comes. We must never allow success to replace intimacy. Before you rebuild your house, rebuild your altar. Before you expand your plans, return to Bethel. Your altar is your foundation  without it, everything else will eventually crumble.

  • Has your devotion grown cold? Go back to Bethel.
  • Has your success taken you away from God? Return and rebuild the altar of prayer, worship, and the Word.
God blesses most where He is first.

3. ORDER BRINGS BLESSING

God is a God of order, not confusion. Where divine order is maintained, blessings flow naturally. When priorities are misplaced, chaos follows.

An Illustration:A talented footballer who loses discipline eventually ruins his career. Likewise, a believer with spiritual gifts but no discipline or spiritual structure ends up shipwrecked.

If your spiritual life is disorderly, even the right opportunities will misfire. But when you set things in divine order — putting prayer before planning, worship before work, and holiness before happiness  the favor of God begins to follow you.

Take time to realign your life:

  • Are your priorities kingdom-centered or self-centered?
  • Does God have the first say in your decisions?
  • Do you still hear His voice before you move?
When God is first, confusion disappears.

4. REBUILD YOUR ALTAR

Your altar represents your connection with God  your personal devotion, your prayer life, your obedience. Without the altar, there can be no fire; without fire, there is no power; and without power, there is no impact.

Practical Steps to Rebuilding the Altar
1. Rededicate your life to God. Return to Him sincerely, asking for renewal.
2. Restore your prayer life. Set a time daily for prayer and personal fellowship.
3. Clean your environment. Remove every distraction or hidden sin that competes with God’s place.
4. Reinstate family devotion. Let the home altar burn again  prayer with your spouse, your children, or your ministry team.

When the altar is rebuilt, the fire will return. When the fire returns, the glory will appear.

Before you ask God to bless your work, make sure you’ve put Him first.
When the order is right, the oil will flow. When the altar is repaired, the presence of God will fill the house.

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” ~ Psalm 11:3
Seek first the Kingdom. Let God take His rightful place, and everything else will align perfectly.

2. Every strange altar competing with You in my life  be broken in Jesus’ name.
3. Restore my first love and rebuild my spiritual altar.
4. Lord, teach me to seek You first in every decision and every season.
